What is Botanical Pest Control?

One of the things you’ll notice while looking through the Noosa Pest Management website is the frequent mention of botanical pest control. And the chances are, you’ll be wondering just exactly what that means. And why it’s our preferred approach. Well, read on and wonder no more!

What is botanical pest control?

Most commercial pest control solutions are derived from synthetic chemicals They are often highly toxic. And while they are designed to target specific problems, they frequently act as a blanket solution, unable to discriminate between the organisms they come into contact with, wiping out the good with the bad. When used extensively, this can be problematic – and dangerous – for local wildlife, as well as family pets and even family members, particularly children.

While botanical pest control has been created for exactly the same purpose, it is natural in origin, with ingredients largely plant based. Through millennia many plants have evolved to repel creatures that are likely to harm them. But while each plant has its own specific ‘enemy’, it can’t afford to repulse every insect it encounters. The defenses of each have developed accordingly. By using the solutions provided by nature, botanical pest control is able to work effectively without posing a hazard to the environment – or the other creatures that live in it.

It must be noted that precautions must still be made when using botanical pest control. While the substances aren’t considered harmful for the environment long-term, they can still be dangerous if inappropriately used.

Why Noosa Pest Management favors botanical pest control

Our at Noosa aim is to put an end to all of your pest problems. Domestic or commercial. But, if we can help it, we’d rather not unnecessarily wreak havoc on the environment. And truthfully, most botanical pest control solutions are more effective in the long term. Largely because they’re not masked as one-hit wonders.

So, yes. We’re very well aware that few people take pleasure in sharing their homes with rodents or bugs of any kind. But we also know that there are an enormous number of beneficial insects too. And that rodents have their place in the ecosystem. Although we WILL utilize synthetic solutions where a client requests it, or where there are no viable botanical alternatives, we see our role as being more than simply ‘seek and destroy’. We’re stewards of the environment too.

How does the Noosa Pest Management botanical approach work?

The thing about most pests is that they can’t be beaten with one single solution. Because while it’s all very well removing/destroying the current culprits, you’ll be back to square one tomorrow if you don’t find out how they got in. And how to stop them doing it again. With that in mind, Noosa’s botanical pest control is multi-layered.

We start by inspecting your home and working out what the problem is. We can show you all the areas where insects, rodents, or anything else might find entry. And we’ll provide you with a list of suggestions on how you can make your home less attractive to unwanted guests. Then we’ll apply a botanical insecticide to target the existing problem. It’s simple and effective… A bit like us!

There is still a bit of an attitude out there that ‘natural’ means ‘ineffective’. That making a ‘green’ choice is also about making a compromise. Our view is that it’s actually about using common sense. If you have an option to use something tried, tested and efficient that comes without a concomitant risk of destroying the planet, then why wouldn’t you use it? Hundreds of our customers have. And you only have to read their comments, to see just how right the decision has been for them.
