Bed bugs are no joke and based on this recent article they are becoming a bigger issue in the USA.  Bed bugs are a scary thought for many for a variety of reasons.  They can be picked up in many places, can spread quickly, and are extremely hard to get rid of.  Determining if you have a bed bug problem can be a scary experience, so we wanted to provide some tell tale signs to look out for.

1.  Utilize a LED flashlight and inspect behind your headboard, your mattress folds and the area where your box spring contacts the bed frame for adult bed bugs (google image link here) and their feces.  It is black and small, similar to a poppyseed.

2.Random blood smears on your sheets are an excellent sign of potential bed bug issues.  Bed bugs are very easy to kill by smashing or rolling over on the insect.  Therefore, sometimes while feeding, we can simple roll over or move around and squash the adult insect.  This will leave a small blood smear on the sheets in that area.

3.  Castes (shedding) are an excellent means of determining a bed bug infestation.  Bed bugs do molt throughout their maturing years.  These exoskeletons that they leave behind can be properly identified with a small magnifying glass.

4.  Bites are the most inaccurate means of identifying a bed bug infestation.  There are dozens, if not hundreds of thousands of different insects that can cause a spot on your skin to raise and become itchy.  Truth is, nearly half of all humans will not even react to a bed bug bite and if we do, it may be up to two or three months before we do react!

5.  Leave it to the professionals!  Noosa Pest Management, LLC can bring in our K-9 team to perform a thorough inspection for bed bug activity.  These animals are extremely accurate and can save YOU lots of MONEY in the long run.  They do this by either confirming an infestation or not, or by building us, the pest management professional, a road map of your home as to how the treatment would be structured.  This can be  a huge time saver and in turn, save you money!
